One man shot as Kenyan police battle protesters in Nairobi

Kenya police are are having a running battle with protesters after opposition called for an anti-government protest, a number of opposition leaders have been arrested in the capital, Nairobi.

Serving Kenyan senators Kilifi and Stewart Madzayo together with MPs Amina Mnyazi and Ken Chonga are among those held in custody by the police.

Businesses were closed in Nairobi city centre, Monday as riot police fired tear gas to disperse protesters in the central business district.

One person was reportedly shot a market near Kibera slum in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

Reports indicate that traders were screaming that the victim is a mechanic, not a protester, just before he was shot by men in police uniforms

The man was rushed to the hospital on a motorcycle by sympathisers.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga draws fanatical support in the area.

Access to some roads in the city have been restricted to prevent people from gathering.

The opposition has called for planned mass protests against the high cost of living and what they term an illegitimate presidency.
