Peter Obi’s campaign DG, Doyin Okupe reigns

The director general of Labour Party presidential campaign the ObiDatti Movement, Chief Doyin Okupe has resigned his position, following his conviction by a Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday.

In his letter, he stated that having vested too much in the campaign, he would not allow  his personal travails to become a source of distraction.

He continued, in the circumstances, I have opted to step aside and plead that you appoint a new campaign DG, who can continue the assignment with zero distraction.

His resignation was met with commendation especially from the Obidient(a name taken by supporters of Peter Obi presidential ambition) family welcomed his decision, describing it as exemplary.

Resignation of office holders or those seeking for office in Nigeria is very rare, many would hang on using any legal leeway possible.

Chief Doyin Okupe was in January 2019, arraigned by the EFCC alongside two companies – Value Trust Investment Ltd and Abrahams Telecoms Ltd, over allegations of “money laundering and criminal diversion of funds” to the tune of N702 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), which was headed by Sambo Dasuki.
